Limpets have such a powerful suction foot that it is extremely difficult to remove them from their support. Scientists have further discovered that this animal makes the strongest material in the living kingdom. The average strength of limpets tooth is higher than that of arachnid bristles and comparable to the strongest fibers in the industrial world.
Here, limpets have been separated from their natural surroundings and repositioned on an exhibition wall. Lit by candles, the Chinese hats cast stretching shadows on the wall and transform the colony of limpets into a constellation.
Lifting limpets off their rocks to transform them into stars is as much a way to connect the infinitely small to the infinitely large, as it is to transcend the suffering associated with separation and detachment.
